Liberals
Ha! Tricked you! You thought this was going to be about liberals. Well, it is.
So, the essence of liberal-ness (no, independency is NOT a word) is tolerance.
Evidently, liberals cannot hate conservatives for the essence of being conservative; that would be a very conservative thought.
Just pondering this.
Truth be told, I don't understand conservatives very well. Would someone like to explain conservativism to me?
(silence...)

Hey. You did too talk of liberals, of which I happen to be. To some extent. Let's just say I lean much farther left than right.
Conservatives are those afraid and resistant to drastic changes, and are slow to accept massive shifts in public thought. Hence our backward moving society in the modern-era. Yes, I experience this even in Iowa. No cracks.
Liberals, on the other hand, are more accepting of the citzens' rapidly changing views, needs, and wishes.
There are a good number of situations to exemplify this. A prominent & particularly apparent one is the second phase of the French Revolution...you've got revolutionaries scared to completely drop the monarchy (conservatives, aye?) and radicals ready to dump it and snap a republic out of the air (left-wing).
Another is...well, this is too long. Egad.
Oooh...A commentor...I thought you all died.
Yes, I do believe the terms "right-wing" and "left-wing" came from the French Revolution: those on the left side of the hall were the radicals, and those who sat on the right were the Royalists.
