More Life Forms

I heard on BBC about scientists finding another planet in space that is "the right size" and "the right temperature" to support life. I suppose this is exciting, but I was struck slightly by how closed-minded this seemed to me. Do you believe that life only exists as we know it? I enjoy boggling myself trying to imagine existences other than what I've ever known. Can life exist beyond time? The big bang is expanding outwards, right? In every direction? I have a theory that time is a sphere. Is the number line a sphere? Infinity is the same distance in every direction from zero. Is i's infinity the same as real numbers? Where do they meet? If you fly off into space forever, will you be able to break out ahead of the universe's expansion? Does that limit our speed capabilities? If you keep going in one direction, will you eventually come back to where you started? Are you upside-down? Is this reincarnation? Would we move in time, or just space? Can life of some sort survive without the universe? Without the sun? With intense gravity? Would they even come up with radio waves to try and contact us? There are so many questions to ask, and no answers. Perhaps we would know if we had the capability to travel beyond the edge of time.

Global Warming

Global warming is a worldwide issue. I might even chance to say it's global.

Many are confused, doubting the negative changes in our atmosphere. Perhaps the 30 degree weather in April spawned this belief. What these people are missing, however, is the fact that global warming doesn't just make everything warmer. It changes the global climate. This could mean cooling temperatures. Whatever the circumstances, 30 degrees in April is not normal. Enormous, metropolis-destroying hurricanes...normal? Will we let this ease its way into our conciousness, becoming the norm and eventually leading to our demise? Maybe not your demise, yours might be of "natural" causes. I'm more worried about mine. Will there be another form of natural cause entering ourdescription of death?

No. We cannot sit and close our eyes while we slowly destroy the world.

My concern is more for the lack of action from our own, personal, U.S. government. It boggles my mind to think of how we close our eyes like children, blind ourselves to the issues and hope that they'll go away. We hide under the covers and wait for our mothers to save us from the big nasty monsters. For us, there are no mothers. We are big people. We have perfect capabilities to solve these issues, or at least be proactive in attempting to. There is no reason to fear the big, nasty oil companies whose narrow-sightedness endows them to the fate of sacrificing worldwide, long-term good for their personal frivolous short-term amenities. Or are the oil companies really that corrupt? Have we really appealed to them? Or is the fear just a guise: an excuse for procrastination?

Whatever the situation, we don’t have the time to wait for others to realize the gravity of the situation. We can’t all sit in the back row and hope to not be called on. We can’t wait for others to do the job that is meant for us all. Where are the leaders in today’s society? Someone has got to tell the U.S. to stop being run by the oil companies, and start being run by the people who care. Who will care? A trucker? A student? A professor? A child?

Is it you?

I know it’s me. Please help me get up my courage so I can help save the world.
